Having a website or blog can be a great thing, however, your online presence must be noticed. There are billions of websites on the Internet. For any new website or blog to stand a chance on the Internet we must promote our site to our target audience.

One of the most important aspects of a successful online presence is traffic. We need web users to see our site, otherwise nobody will know that our site exists. The best method of getting traffic is ranking highly in Google. As successful webmasters we should strive to be on the first page Google. The higher we are in Google for our keywords the better.

Reasons why your website needs to be on the first page of Google

  1. Organic traffic is targeted traffic
  2. Ranking on high in Google is free traffic
  3. Ranking on the first page provides more traffic
  4. Google is the most frequently used search engine to date
  5. Many people use Google to search or buy products than any other resource
  6. Some people shop online more often than visiting a retail outlet
  7. Your target market is searching for you
  8. Your website will get more visitors than websites ranking on other pages
  9. Your website will be generating more enquiries, more leads and plus more sale

Ranking highly in the search engines is know as Organic Traffic. Organic Traffic is a greater investment in the long term. Some of the methods used to generate Organic traffic including link building, submitting your website to directories plus one of my favourites is link-baiting. These techniques do reap rewards and they serve a purpose in the long term.

However, paid traffic, includes Google Adwords and advertisements. These techniques are great for the short term, but when you stop paying for advertising your traffic stops. Paid traffic requires an investment, plus this investment needs to continue otherwise to be successful.

To summarise, think for the long term about your website or blog. Organic web traffic will be much better for your online presence in the long term. Forget about the short term as you will be falling short. Think ahead for the mid and long term.
