Lessons learnt from not blogging
Lessons learnt from not blogging
First of all, I’d like to apolgise for my absence from the atmmultimedia blog. My last post was on December 2009. There was some other situations from 2009 that had started to take up my time. People started to notice that I haven’t updated my blog and I realised that my absence was noticed by some fellow blog readers.
There was a majority of work related projects and health issues that needed to be addressed. However, I wasn’t going to let atmmultimedia take a huge nose dive. I needed to take a fresh approach to the blog and re-think my priorities of what I need to learn and improve upon to make atmmultimedia.com a successful online business.
Now we are in March 2010, although my absence from blogging had occurred, there have been many lessons learnt to what happens if you neglect your blog.
In essence, a blogger should understand that a successful online presence is like a piece of real-estate. When you build a house and improve the quality of this house, you are adding value to the property. The very same theory can be applied with a blog.
Lesson One: A blog is a business
In order for my blog to be successful I realised that I needed to treat my blog as a business. Over the past few months, I was becoming jaded. A break was needed. You MUST treat your blog like a business, if you want to make money from it, you must be determined.
Lesson Two: Prioritise on what is important
I purchased the domain atmmultimedia.com in 2006 and the blog was developed in 2008. I started to lose sight of what is important. To be fair, I wasn’t reviewing my goals as often as I should. This is a big mistake not to write down your goals. In order to be successful online, you MUST write down your goals.
Lesson Three: Less is more
This is a very important lesson. In life I’ve struggled to find the balance in what I do. The biggest asset for everyone is “time”. There are only so many hours in the day. I want to be very successful in life. Currently I have a full time job and there are so many hours you can work. Plus I’ve met one amazing lady that I love dearly. In order to be successful, you must stay fixed on your goals.
I’ve decided to write at least 2 blog posts per week on this blog from now on. I feel this is a fair amount of blog posts, because generating new content in a hectic lifestyle can be very difficult. One of my most painful issues as a blogger and designer was suffering from “creative burn out“. Quality is much more important to me than quantity.
Lesson Four : There is more to life than working
As mentioned previously you can only work so many hours in the day. I am a very hard worker, but I also need some “me-time”. Having time away from a computer is very important, because you can try out new ideas and have more creativity. I am a very creative person and it is important to keep those creative juices flowing.
Lesson Five: Work on what is important to you
Focus on your passion and keep working towards your goals. My passion is helping others in the realm of new media, internet marketing and internet business. My goal is be my own boss one day, therefore, I am working towards these goals. An online business could potentially create the lifestyle you desire. Focus on your dreams and go for it.
To conclude, my message is when you are stuck and struggling for ideas, sometimes it can be wise to take a break and evaluate your current status and apply a new strategy. At times, we can get sucked into what we are doing and then lose sight of our goals.
