Improve your blog when suffering from writer’s block
Improve your blog
Blogging provides lots of thought and creativity. I hold my hand up and say: “yes, I am guilty, of struggling for ideas”. Just like every other blogger on the web, we do struggle for ideas. However, if you are continuously writing, you need to consider other areas of blogging. Generating good solid content is only one half of the puzzle.
If you are eager like me to set up an online business, you’ll probably be thinking of ways to improve your blog all the time. I have a full-time job, but my destiny is to be self-employed and fire my boss. Being in full-time employment can impact on the time I spend on my blog. However, I am so determined that I’ll never give up.
I will share with you some tips for ways that I improve my blog, my knowledge and overall concepts for my blog.
- Review old posts – Old posts are full of potential ideas to create a new blog post. Spend some time reading and viewing your old blog posts. Is there any way that you can improve the search engine ranking positions for previous posts. Spend some time doing some search engine optimisation. If you’re stuck read some SEO tips.
- Internal Deep Linking – This is vitality important.Go through your blog posts, locate relevant posts and link to other posts within your blog. Internal deep linking will increase your Google PageRank and make your blog more useful for your readers.
- Read other blogs – On your search for inspiration read other blogs. You will begin to get your creative juices flowing once again. I suggest that you read the top blogs in your niche as you can easily generate many ideas plus don’t forget to read smaller blogs too.
- Comment on other blogs – Commenting is a great way to gain backlinks to your blog plus some traffic too.
- Comment on forums – Reading relevant content on a forum and commenting can generate some creative ideas. Inspiration triggers creativity. Spend some time delivering good content on other blogs and forums.
- Create a link love post – Is there any blog posts that you have enjoyed from other bloggers? If so, create a link-love post. This is easy to do, you are telling your blog readers about some other great posts. This is a great method of gaining comments to your blog by creating link love. The bloggers you link too will be grateful as it is a free link.
- Network with other bloggers – Write to a blogger that inspires you and tell them that you enjoy their blog. Networking can lead to potentially big things over a period of time. Do network well and you’ll be potentially able to do some: cross promotion, link exchanges, sponsorships and blog post exchanges. Once you begin to build some good networks and alliances you can help each other out. Remember the quote: “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know”.

I couldn’t have said it better myself. Commenting on other blogs surely does help with ideas. Because something you read just may pop an idea in your head.

I get most of my inspiration from forum. I participate actively in providing help to people for SEO with Google on SEO Chat, and the number of questions and the frequency they pop up tells me what I should write about.

SEO chat is a great forum to gain inspiration and learn.
I am pleased you’ve mentioned the SEO chat forum, I’ve learnt so much from there.

James,
These sound like great tips.
Your old posts can provide some great material, particularly if you are able to examine the topic from a different angle in a new post.
Also, participation in forums helps to keep up to date with respect to events surrounding your niche topic.
One more idea – keep up with the traditional media – particularly with respect to anything relevant to your niche topic. Traditional media, in addition to other blogs and forums, helps in the process of keeping abreast with the broader range of developments within your niche topic, which in turn provides for a broader range of options with respect to topics for posts.

Hi Andrew,
Thank you for stopping by.
There is no doubt that inspiration could be found on other blogs.
Thanks for the idea of using traditional media. Yes it is a great idea to look at TV and newspapers if you can apply these.
Wow you’re teaching English in South Korea. I bet that’s an experience. I’d love to know more.
Please keep in touch.

i agree with you as well we all at one time lose ideas. When i have the time to improve my blog i take the time to do so. I also like the list of things you do because i am guilty of doing such things as myself.

I don’t know if I am different than everyone else but to be completely honest I never ever struggle for ideas when I want to write something. I have kinda the opposite problem that I have to many things that I would like to write about and share but I simply don’t have the time to write it all. Sometimes I’ll write the ideas in a journal (if they’re really good) but I hardly ever look at them because I have come up with new ideas in the meantime :)

Hi Mikael,
Wow, u must be lucky. Running out of ideas is something I face often. I guess because I work on front of a computer all day long. Maybe even too much.
So inspiration is difficult, but that’s excellent if your overflowing with ideas.
Nice one,

Ha ha Mikael,
I now share your view! Some days I do wonder a bit what to write about, but when I start, I have more problems to stop and limit the length of my posts than meeting a minimum word count!
